SENCo- Mr. S. Ingham
At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we believe in the Every Child Matters ideals. We therefore strive to raise the attainment of children with special educational needs, children learning English as an additional language, children of ethnic minority heritage and gifted and able children.
We believe at Joseph's that all members of the school community are entitled to be treated and to treat each other with consideration, courtesy and respect. All in our community have the right to equal opportunities in all aspects of our school life, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, ability. We aim to provide equal access to our broad and balanced curriculum. We consistently strive to match opportunities to the interests, needs and abilities of the individual.
Special Needs
The Governing Body’s policy on children with special educational needs aims to ensure that individual children’s needs are quickly identified and steps are taken to meet them in line with the code of practice.
Children experiencing learning difficulties are generally supported by the class teacher and classroom support that differentiates the tasks to the ability of the child. Children receive additional help through group work activities provided by Learning Support or SENCO co-ordinated activities. Some of our children have a Support Assistant to support and help them access the curriculum. We also have input on occasion from specialist teams.
A register is kept of all pupils identified with a special education need.
